WRBG February In-Person Event: A Tour of “Building Stories” at the National Building Museum

February 20 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

The Washington Rare Book Group invites you to join us for

A Tour of Building Stories, an exhibition at the National Building Museum

401 F Street NW, Washington, DC

on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 11AM

Building Stories is the first national exhibition to call attention to the built environment’s role as an important, and often overlooked, character in children’s literature … Award-winning author/illustrators David Macaulay and Oliver Jeffers have collaborated on this exhibition to create original environments that will offer insight into their creative processes and engage visitors to better understand the worlds created in books and encourage their role in making a better world.” For more information on the exhibition see the museum’s website here.

Building Stories presents a special collection of classic children’s literature in innovative ways.  You will enjoy seeing the early reading-related toys and objects as well as the wall of alphabet books. You may find the museum’s approach to book display and exhibition as interesting as the items on view!

The size of the group is limited to 15, so register soon! Caitlin Bristol, our tour guide, will meet us at 11 am at the National Building Museum entrance. Want to join the group for lunch and conversation after the tour? We will walk to Clyde’s, 707 7th Street NW (eight minute, three block walk) after the tour. Please indicate in your RSVP if you will be joining us for lunch.

Directions

The Museum is located at 401 F Street NW Washington DC, across the street from the Judiciary Square (Red Line) station’s F Street NW entrance. Alternatively, you can take the Yellow/Green/Red lines to the Gallery Place-Chinatown station and walk two blocks east to the Museum.

We hope you will join us!
