The Washington Rare Book Group invites you to join us for our Annual Year-End Meeting and Presentation:

The Armenian Palimpsest Investigation

By Dr. Khachik Harutyunyan

May 31, 2022, 8:00 p.m. (please note unusual event time!)

Dr. Harutyunyan will be joining us from Armenia to present his latest research on the 10th – 11th century Armenian palimpsest manuscript in the Dibner Library collection (Smithsonian Libraries and Archives).

He will introduce briefly the Armenian alphabet, manuscript heritage, and Armenian paleography then will discuss the under-text investigation.

This virtual event will also constitute the Group’s Annual Meeting, including a Treasurer’s Report and a sneak peek at what we have planned for next year, so please do tune in, and bring any group business you may want to discuss!

Finally, as this event is virtual and free, please feel free to invite anyone who may be interested in learning more about WRBG. If you have friends, family, students, interns, or colleagues who like rare materials, this is an ideal opportunity for them to meet us, hear about what we do, and consider joining. The more the merrier!

Dr. Khachik Harutyunyan is a director of the Scientific Research Center of the Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Armenia and a senior researcher at the Research Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran). His research is mainly related to the study of Armenian manuscripts, their archeology, paleography, and colophons. His latest book is dedicated to the examination of the Armenian colophons in comparison with other manuscript cultures. He is also interested in the history of ancient book production and circulation.

Please RSVP below by May 29th, the zoom link will be circulated on May 31st.

Note the unusual time!

We hope you will join us!
